After Building and operating Kubernetes clusters for years, we noticed organizations are having difficulty keeping up with the increasing complexity of building and operating enterprise grade Kubernetes clusters. Managing Kubernetes clusters also puts more pressure on your internal teams. This results in loss of productivity and higher costs. But maybe more important, it slows down time-to-market.
To help organizations that are having difficulty setting up and managing an enterprise grade Kubernetes solution, or do not want to do it all by themselves, Red Kubes now offers a managed Kubernetes Service: Kubernetes Operations. The basis for the Kubernetes Operations service is Otomi Stack. Otomi Stack is an Open Source Enterprise Kubernetes management platform that we developed the last couple of years. With Kubernetes Operations we can fill in the gap between the cloud infrastructure layer and customer application workloads, and take full responsibility of a Kubernetes based infrastructure. This enables our customers to focus on what they do best: develop software and add value to their customers.
We think that small and midsize companies are slowly starting to realize that the burden of maintaining an enterprise grade Kubernetes environment is not necessarily worth the effort when running just a couple of micro services. Also, the costs of running your own Kubernetes cluster at any cloud provider are high. But if you want to develop and run cloud native applications, Kubernetes is surely the way to go. That is why we have started developing a SaaS container orchestration solution based on Kubernetes, called Otomi Cloud.
With Otomi Cloud we would like to offer a fully managed enterprise grade shared Kubernetes platform with many features, where you only pay for the resources your apps consume. This would enable start-ups, small and midsize companies to benefit from Kubernetes and deploy cloud native applications in just a few minutes. Because of the huge amount of interest for Otomi Cloud, we will start offering Otomi Cloud without the online and fully automated onboarding. We hope to deliver the full online service in the beginning of Q2 2020.
Next to developing our Otomi Cloud SaaS solution, we will continue to add more features to Otomi Stack. Our goal is to make Otomi Stack freely available so every organization is able to benefit from it. A few companies are already taking advantage of Otomi Stack and we hope more will follow soon.
